LR-1

LOX-Ethanol Blowdown Rocket

The LR-1 is a collaborative project between Honkawa Rocketry, Friends of Amateur Rocketry, and John Newman Propulsion, to produce a highly refined but simple launch vehicle to provide University Student teams the experience and education required to build and launch cryogenic bipropellant liquid rockets quickly and safely.

Derived from decades of experience with amateur scale liquid propellant rockets at the Friends of Amateur Rocketry, the LR-1 is the answer to “How do I build a liquid rocket”. It keeps hardware to a minimum with a compact and sophisticated Wireless Ground Support system developed by Rocket Talk, dispensing of the need for a power outlet or running wires along the ground.

Aluminum monocoque design keeps the structure uncomplicated but robust, with plenty of room for modular design and modification for different payloads.

Blowdown propulsion keeps the plumbing to a minimum, reducing the aches and pains brought about by large number of fittings.
